Wittgenstein on Management Information Systems (MIS)Ludwig Wittgenstein is often cited for his original and still controversial views about what it means to "follow a rule". Computers follow rules (programs) and programmers are also supposed to follow rules (specifications) when writing them. But things are obviously not so simple. There are bugs and, worse still, failed projects. How is this possible when the objective is so simple : find out what the rules are and write a program that follows them ? Maybe Wittgenstein is right and following a rule is not as straightforward as it seems. New to this site ? go to the introduction |
